A summer experience in music and film
Summer 2017 plans will be available in March 2017.
Music and Film PLUS (Positive Learning and Leading Using Song, Screen, Stage, Sound, and Service) introduces students to a diverse offering of activities using educational principles such as team building and leadership.
Students learn about a variety of musical genres like jazz, blues, rock, and swing, and film genres such as animation, documentary, fiction, science fiction, drama, live action-scripted, and live action-unscripted. Students also learn about film equipment, musical equipment, instrumentation, vocalization, performance, songwriting, recording, and media.
Using music and film as the mediums, students are able to play music, create films, and enjoy games that develop personal, social, and creative skills. Whether the underlying focus is on listening, self-expression, concentration, trust, or just getting to know one another, music and film are the common threads, the universal language that ties it all together. Older children have the opportunity to be leaders and role models while guiding younger students through these activities.
Music PLUS encompasses all aspects of playing music: learning how to form a band, learning how to work together as a band, respecting and supporting each other’s ideas, and learning about every aspect that goes into a performance. For some, the excitement is in having the opportunity to play with others and bring their musical ability to the next level. For some, it’s in learning a new instrument. For others, it’s in writing a song. And still for others, it may come from a different musical angle—learning about musical equipment and sound engineering.
Music and Film PLUS are student centered and student led programs. Students will find ways to connect to their school and greater communities, and create opportunities to help through music and film. Performing and sharing at school events, town events, playing and creating for charity fundraisers, and sharing music and film with the younger and older generations in the community are just a few examples of how Music and Film PLUS encompasses service and leadership.
