The Johnson Art Center is central to the lives and learning of Purnell students. Classes in the Studio Arts program cover a wide range of media including: drawing, painting, mixed media, digital and film photography, graphic design, fashion and jewelry design, ceramics and sculpture. Students can also choose from a wide offering of art history courses, which take advantage of the proximity to New York City by visiting celebrated museums and galleries.
Class sizes are small, so it's easy to get feedback and share observations and thoughts during critiques and through portfolio review. Student artwork is proudly displayed all around the campus and many environmental projects take full advantage of the beauty of campus.
With the support and guidance of professional artists, a wide range of courses of study, easy access to studio space and many opportunities to display work, Purnell offers students a true advantage in the studio arts.
