100% Participation in the Annual Fund For the Ninth Year
Posted 10/24/2012 09:38AM

Any non-profit organization relies heavily on contributions from both corporate and individual donors. Purnell is no exception, but the overwhelming support Purnell consistently gains from its various constituencies is both unique and laudable. This marks the ninth year in a row that Purnell's faculty and staff have had 100% participation in the Annual Fund. "100% of faculty and staff participation is not standard," says Head of School Ayanna Hill-Gill, "and we were able to do it for 9 years in a row.  That is incredible."  Faculty and staff donations have provided for over $10,000 to the Annual Fund, a clarion statement ringing out how much faculty and staff value the School and its mission. But this year also marked 100% participation from the Board of Trustees. As further testimony to the pride and support of Purnell's mission, the Class of 2013 created its spot in future alumnae history as the third senior class at Purnell to donate 100% to the Annual Fund.  Third year Senior, Thuy Hoang, said, "I am happy and proud to be part of the class of 2013.  We have been given four years from the School and it is the right time to give back." Last year's almost unprecedented 75% participation of current parents was coupled with a 2% increase in alumnae support making last fiscal year the highest alumnae participation the School has had since 2005. "Our young alumnae, the Decade Club (graduates ten years out), are especially engaged in what is happening and are demonstrating their support in record numbers as well," said Dawn Frost, Director of Advancement.  Looking toward the 50th Anniversary in 2015, Purnell hopes to capitalize on this momentum and encourages alumnae who have not made a gift to Purnell to consider giving back through the New Alumnae Challenge.  Frost explained that alumnae have extra incentive to give this year.  "An anonymous donor, to demonstrate how important Purnell's alumnae are to its mission, will match all gifts from new alumnae donors two to one!"  As the milestone of the 50th Anniversary approaches, alumnae have the opportunity to strengthen the numbers of the already mighty community of Purnell supporters and double the efforts of the Annual Fund.

Purnell strives to create a school and working environment that is affirming and inclusive. Purnell respects and values its diversity and does not discriminate on the basis of differences in age, ethnicity, family structure, national origin, physical attributes, race, religion, sexual orientation or socioeconomic background.
