Career Speaking Event at Purnell
Posted 01/31/2013 03:18PM

On Tuesday January 29th we had the pleasure of welcoming the Honorable ShawnDya Simpson, who came to speak to Purnell students about her distinguished career as a district attorney and judge. Ms. Simpson, who currently presides as a judge in New York City Criminal Court, had many pieces of advice for the Purnell girls in attendance. The two comments that stood out most for the students were her advice not to judge people by their appearance, and her inspirational message that the girls can achieve their dreams, just as she did. Her daughter Shariah is a great example of that message. The next morning she shared her own dream of becoming a popular TV personality in a speech about her personal growth and successes as a student at Purnell.

Purnell strives to create a school and working environment that is affirming and inclusive. Purnell respects and values its diversity and does not discriminate on the basis of differences in age, ethnicity, family structure, national origin, physical attributes, race, religion, sexual orientation or socioeconomic background.
