Purnell Wins NAIS Leading Edge Award March 29, 2006
Purnell's unique Affinities Program was recently selected as the small school category winner of the National Association of Independent Schools Leading Edge Awards in the category of Equity and Justice. This award is bestowed upon outstanding programs that focus on creating and sustaining a diverse, inclusive, and supportive school environment. Purnell's groundbreaking Affinities Program was selected for creating an atmosphere that promotes academic success for all students throughout the curriculum. Purnell's Affinities Coordinator uses a systematic series of interviews, reflective exercises and personality profiles to help each student focus on her individual strengths and interests. That information is then shared with the whole school community so that each girl's affinities can be both celebrated and leveraged to improve learning.
Head of School Jenifer Fox enthusiastically commented, "This is a huge honor for Purnell and its teachers. The faculty puts a tremendous amount of time and energy into this program, and they deserve the national recognition this brings to our school." Purnell was recognized at the NAIS annual national conference in Boston in March.
