To leave money or property to Purnell School using a contingent bequest, you and your lawyer may find the following sample language helpful:

In the event that _________________ does not survive me, I give ($_________ dollars) (a specific asset) or (____ % of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate) to Purnell School, an educational non profit 501(c)(3) corporation located at 51 Pottersville Road in Pottersville, New Jersey, for its general educational and charitable purposes.

Here is an example of how this type of bequest might work:

Jane Doe has made a 25 percent contingent bequest in her will to Purnell School. Jane's will also made provisions and bequests to other family members. It had been quite some time since Jane had updated her will, and her life had changed significantly since the last will was drawn up. As it turned out, the heirs that Jane had named in her will had all predeceased her. Her estate was valued at $780,000.00 at the time of her death. After Jane's estate had been settled it was determined that the value of her residual estate was $459,000.00. In this example, Purnell would receive a gift of $114,750.00 from Jane's estate.
