Lisa Jo Hurbaugh Honored as 2006 Alumna of the Year
June 1, 2006

For 2006, Lisa Jo Hurbaugh of the class of 1982 was chosen as the Alumna of the Year. The Alumna of the Year is honored for her outstanding achievement and for reflecting the guidelines of Purnell in all her undertakings, furthering the mission and goals of the School.

Lisa Jo, who won the Headmaster's Award at her graduation in 1982, continues to be a leader in her community. In addition to opening her own nursery school 15 years ago, she was elected President of the New Haven Chapter of the National Association for Education of Young Children. She has volunteered at Yale New Haven Hospital developing the literacy program that promotes the importance and need for literacy for mothers with newborns.

Lisa Jo was previously a class representative for the Class of 1982 and has served as Alumnae Association Secretary for many years. Purnell has been an important part of her life and continues today as she follows Purnell's guidelines and philosophy with her children, her friends, and in her nursery school.

Her family, recognizing the importance of a Purnell education, donated Roper House, named after her grandparents. Ms. Hurbaugh was presented the Alumna of Year Award at Morning Meeting on May11th, 2006. To read her remarks to the School community upon accepting the award, click here.
