Purnell Ringers Debut at Fall Open House
November 17, 2006

The newly founded Purnell Ringers made their debut at the Fall Open House on November 5th. Music teacher Jamee Guerra, who had played with a group while attending Westminster Choir College, began the Ringers based on a recommendation from the Middle States Accreditation process.

Most of the members of the group had never played an instrument before. Ms. Guerra noted that bell ringing presented a fairly steep learning curve meaning that the girls could be making music relatively quickly while still having plenty of room for improvement. She added, "The girls need to master multiple skills: sight reading, awareness of dynamics, teamwork and presentation." Looking back on the progress of the eleven girls in the group over the last three months, she added, "It's really cool to think about where they started. They were completely uncoordinated. Now I am seeing self-sufficient, independent learners. They just pick up the music, read it and start playing."
