Rob Starkey is currently Purnell's Artist in Residence. His impressionist paintings of rural landscapes grace nearly every building on campus. Rob's work spans over two decades and has moved through several recognizable periods. The New Jersey countryside has long been a subject of Rob's landscapes and more recently Vermont and Maine.

As chairman of the Studio Arts department, Rob's teaching has been a defining force in the lives of many Purnell girls. "I want kids to see, to slow down, to find a visual experience that is a part of themselves."

Reflecting on his years of service, Rob realizes, "Since I've been here since 1979 -- except for four years -- I've taught most all of those girls who have passed through Purnell's doors! ... I've had the pleasure of seeing many of my students succeed in art school. These shining 'stars' are wonderful to note, but it is the 'average' students who delight me at reunions, year after year, when they tell me the positive effect my teaching has had on their lives."

In addition to the collection on campus, Rob's work is shown in several galleries. To view his work on campus, call the main school number to arrange a visit.
