SEPTEMBER
9/7  FRIDAY 7:30 pm (ALL)
TAIKO MASALA, Japanese Drumming Ensemble
We're starting the year off with a bang. Literally! You'll be able to feel the rhythm as you watch one of New York City's premiere drum ensembles. Taiko-Masala is a physical powerhouse of sound and movement meshed with the ancient spiritual percussion of Japan.

SAYRELIN,  Indie Rock Band
Representing William Paterson University in the recent MTV-U's "Best Music on Campus" online poll, Sayrelin has the unbridled energy of rookie musicians but the soul of a seasoned band. When they make it big, you can say you saw them first at Purnell.

9/14 FRIDAY   7:30pm   (ALL)
LUNCH MONEY CRIMINALS, Rock Band
Another long standing Purnell tradition, LMC first performed here in Spring 2003, and are back now for their fifth time. The O'Brien brothers: Tom (keyboards), Dan (guitar), and Dave (drums), will rock the Carney again with influences like Ben Folds, The Beatles and Dream Theatre.

MAYHEM POETS, Slam Poetry
A Purnell tradition for four straight years, the Mayhem Poets make poetry a visual and sound explosion. Not only that, but they are also set to be the next big city entrepreneurs, having recently won the hugely competitive, and hugely lucrative, Microsoft Small Business Challenge. They will soon be opening Slam Chops, a deli/poetry café in NYC. Of course, we've always known they were great!

PARENTS' WEEKEND
STUDENT PERFORMANCES AND SLIDE SHOW
Only a few weeks and a few rehearsals into the school year, watch as the Performing Arts groups present excerpts from their works-in-progress. A slide show of the beginning of the year will follow the performances.

NOVEMBER

SKYLR, Hypnotist
In conjunction with Residential Life's Community Service Weekend
The Skylr Experience Comedy Hypnosis Show will amaze you with the power of suggestion as participants perform some pretty crazy stunts. With the added fun of invited guests for the Community Service events of the weekend, this is sure to be a hilarious
evening for those both on stage and off.

A culmination of the Fall semester rehearsals, Purnell's performing groups perform for a full night of entertainment.

PHARAOH'S DAUGHTER, World Music Fusion
Blending a psychedelic sensibility and a pan-Mediterranean sensuality, Basya Schechter leads her band, Pharaoh's Daughter, through the musical flavors of the Middle East, Africa, Israel, Egypt, Central Africa, Turkey, Kurdistan and Greece.

JANUARY

VOICES OF AFRICA, World A Capella and Percussion
In celebration of Peace and Justice Weekend and Martin Luther King, Jr Day.
Back for their third year, this vocal and percussion ensemble is internationally acclaimed for their unique blend of a cappella harmonies and resounding African rhythms on traditional West African instruments. Listen as this diverse ensemble shares the power and joy of music, having just returned from music travels throughout Kuala Lampur, and  Ghana.

CLEO MACK DANCE PROJECT, Modern Dance
In conjunction with Phenomenal Women Weekend
Purnell's own Phenomenal Woman, Cleo Mack, brings her innovative dance company back for a third time to the Carney Center stage. Performing both new pieces and older repertory, the Cleo Mack Dance Project creates a powerful evening of physical art.

PROJECT EXPLORATION SHOWCASE, Musical Production
View the amazing student work in many disciplines created during Project Exploration. In particular, see the miracle of musical entertainment that can happen with only a little over two weeks and lots of intense focus (but perhaps not so much shaving cream this year).

Discover this incredibly athletic Brazilian form of martial art that is both dance and defense.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's traveling company will present the Bard's classic tragic romance.

Come see Baker Dining Hall transform into an urban cafe as students perform their own original poetry and poems from favorite authors. Always a cool and groovy time. (Snap. Snap.)
