On January 1, My Central Jersey covered Purnell School's participation in two important conferences focused on diversity, equity and inclusion. Here's an excerpt from our announcement:
Purnell School announced six student delegates participated in the National Association of Independent School (NAIS) Student Diversity and Leadership Conference (SDLC), virtually on Tuesday, Dec. 1, through Friday, Dec. 4. Additionally, 11 faculty members attended the 2020 NAIS People of Color Conference (PoCC) online from Monday, Nov. 30, through Friday, Dec 4.
The NAIS SDLC is a multiracial, multicultural gathering of upper school student leaders (grades 9-12) from across the U.S. and abroad. SDLC focuses on self-reflecting, forming allies, and building community.
"As part of Purnell's commitment to cultivate leadership skills and to create an equitable, anti-biased community, we are so proud of our delegates who were chosen from an elite group of students worldwide to be ambassadors at this important conference," said Anne M. Glass, Ed.M., head of school, Purnell School. "We are confident this opportunity to engage with their peers across the nation will empower our students to view issues from a new perspective and have a positive impact for our entire campus."
