This way to college

There is a clear path to college from Purnell, with plenty of guidance along the way.

Sophomore Year

Students take the PSAT in both the 10th and 11th grades so they become comfortable with taking standardized tests. This test also serves as a benchmark for those planning to take the SAT or ACT.

Although there are many colleges that are test optional and some schools consider recommendations, essays and transcripts much more strongly than the SAT/ACT, we want to make sure that you are prepared should you want to take either test.

Junior Year

Students take the PSAT in both the 10th and 11th grades so they become comfortable with taking standardized tests. This test also serves as a benchmark for those planning to take the SAT or ACT.

Although there are many colleges that are test optional and some schools consider recommendations, essays and transcripts much more strongly than the SAT/ACT, we want to make sure that you are prepared should you want to take either test.

In our Seminar class you’ll determine what you are looking for in a college, figure out possible majors, and research colleges based on your interests. You’ll present information about two colleges to your classmates, practice interviewing skills, and begin visiting various colleges.

In April, you’ll attend the New Jersey National College Fair where you will meet representatives from various colleges around the world.

Senior Year

Our Senior English class places special emphasis on writing for a public audience. You’ll work on college essays and applications under the guidance of the College Guidance Office, the English Department during the fall term.

We’ll assist you in all aspects of the college application process throughout the year. We understand the anxiety surrounding this process and work closely with families to ensure that everyone’s needs are being met.

Naviance
